Fruit flies and drain flies
Tiny; they breed in ripe fruit, drains and dirty sink traps.
Warning signs not to ignore
- Lots of flies in the kitchen, near the bins or at loading areas
- Small clouds of tiny flies near drains, sinks or fruit
- Larvae in food waste bins or manholes
Why they are a problem
- They carry bacteria from waste to food
- They are an HACCP non-compliance in official inspections
- They give customers and guests an impression of poor hygiene
How we work
- Source analysisWe find where they breed: waste, drains, traps, manure heaps.
- Insect light trapsWe install glue-board light traps, suitable for food preparation areas.
- TreatmentsWe treat breeding sites with larvicides and, if needed, outside surfaces.
- MaintenanceWe regularly replace glue boards and lamps and record the catches.
What you can do to prevent them
- Empty and wash food waste bins often
- Fit insect screens on windows and service doors
- Clean sink traps and drains regularly
- Don't leave overripe fruit out in the open
Send us a photo: we'll identify it and tell you what to do.
FAQ
What lamps do you use in kitchens?
In food areas we use glue-board lamps, which hold insects without scattering fragments as electric zapper lamps do.
How often are the glue boards changed?
Usually every 1–2 months, more often in summer. Under HACCP contracts we do it ourselves during scheduled visits.
