How to recognise them
Bed bug (Cimex lectularius)
Flat, oval, rust-coloured, about 5 mm long. During the day it hides in mattress seams, the headboard, skirting boards and sockets.
Warning signs not to ignore
- Bites when you wake up, often in a line or in groups of three, on arms, neck and legs
- Small black or reddish spots on sheets and mattress
- Flat, rust-coloured insects in mattress seams or the headboard
- Sweetish smell in heavier infestations
Why they are a problem
- Itching, sleeplessness and real distress, especially in children
- They spread easily to other rooms and flats
- For hotels and B&Bs a single negative review can cost a lot of bookings
How we work
- InspectionWe check beds, sofas, furniture and nearby rooms to see how far the infestation has spread.
- PreparationWe give you a simple list: what to wash at 60 °C, what to seal in bags, what to move.
- TreatmentWe treat seams, cracks, headboards and skirting boards with specific products.
- Second visitWe come back after about two weeks to deal with the bed bugs hatched from the eggs.
What you can do to prevent them
- When travelling, put your suitcase on the luggage rack, not on the bed
- When you get home, wash your clothes at a high temperature
- Check second-hand furniture, mattresses and sofas carefully before bringing them home
- In hotels and B&Bs, train staff to check when changing the bed linen
Send us a photo: we'll identify it and tell you what to do.
FAQ
Do I have to throw away the mattress?
Hardly ever. In most cases the mattress can be treated and protected with a bed bug cover. We will tell you after the inspection.
Do you arrive in marked vans?
For hotels, B&Bs and private customers who ask, we work with complete discretion, including at agreed times.
